Amy Crikelair and Acupuncture (Chinese Medicine)
My journey to acupuncture and Chinese medicine is filled with twists and turns, both in geography and careers. I grew up in New Jersey, lived for a few years in Pennsylvania, and then Boston for over 20 years. I moved here to Madison, Wisconsin the month after 9/11 in 2001.
I began my work career as a teacher for 7th grade science students, and also taught emotionally disturbed adolescent girls and then juvenile delinquents in a locked facility. Scattered in these years was a job at AAMCO Transmissions and a job building bicycles at a bicycle store.
Then I attended Boston University and in 2 years took all of the undergraduate and graduate level courses for master’s degree in electrical engineering. I worked as an electrical engineer for 7 years – from large corporations to small start-up companies.
While working as an engineer, I became intrigued with acupuncture and decided that, once again, I needed to change my path. I attended the New England School of Acupuncture, the oldest acupuncture school in the country, for 3 years and began my newest career. Having been studying and working in acupuncture and Chinese medicine since 1991, I am happy to report that I have found where I want to be.
